Training Opportunities

Foster carers come into fostering with a wealth of knowledge and transferable skills. However we ask them to be mindful that caring for a foster child is very different from looking after their birth children. Foster carers need to receive a wide range of training that will help them to understand how to look after a foster child/young person. At Rainbow we have employed a training officer who is responsible for organising and managing all training events. The courses are offered on our premises. These are some of the courses we currently offer:-

  • Safe Caring

  • Child Protection

  • The needs of looked after children

  • Communicating with children and young people

  • Preparing young people for leaving care

  • Working in Partnership

  • Supervising contact visits with parents/relatives

  • First Aid

  • Working with diversity and difference

  • Working with disabled children/young people

Our courses are well attended by foster carers and they are asked to complete an evaluation of the training at the end of the day. All foster carers who have attended our training are given a certificate of attendance and this can be used towards an NVQ qualification.

NVQ Training .

Training is an important aspect of working with foster carers and we offer carers the opportunity to study for an NVQ level 3 qualification. This training will contribute to their overall ability to reflect on their work with children and young people. It will value the contribution they are making and help them to identify their skills, knowledge and values.
